A Collection of Resources for Mathematics

I LOVE teaching math! About 5 or 6 years ago I took my Additional Qualifications and earned my Math Specialist certification. During that process, I created this blog as part of my Specialist course. I realized that I haven't finished what I started, so I am going to go back to get it done, especially since so much has happened with the pandemic impacting students. Over the next few months, I will be updating and adding new tools, research, games, and information to my blog.

Number Talks

There is a lot of research about the value of number talks with students in order to develop mental math strategies, but knowing how to effectively work with students using number talks takes practice. Students are able to move beyond algorithms and truly understand the math they are doing. There are many resources available to teachers to help them develop this skill. Of course, an excellent book to have is by Sherry Parrish, Number Talks: Building Numerical Reasoning. Also available is Number Talks: Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages by Sherry Parrish and Ann Dominick.
